When the defrost sensor detects frost beginning to build on the evaporator coils it temporarily causes the coils to heat up which melts away frost or ice. If the freezer temperature is set below 0 o f you may need to increase your temperature for at least 24 hours. A failed defrost timer or a bad electronic control board may not initiate the automatic defrost cycle causing.

In frost free freezer models a defrost heater is used to melt frost before it can build up on the evaporator coil. If the gasket seems sound a malfunction somewhere in the automatic defrost system could be the culprit. If you are noticing frost in your freezer it may mean there is an issue with the defrost timer. To check the flap open the left side door and look at the black flap inside the ice chute. If you are noticing the build up of frost in the freezer then it can be due to the faulty defrost time.
